The Midnight Nomads Jewelry Guide

Our jewelry is designed for the bold, the unconventional, and the nomadic soul. To ensure your pieces stand the test of time (and to keep your skin happy), please review our guide on materials and care.

Understanding Our Materials

We use a variety of metals to achieve our signature industrial and alternative look.

  • Iron & Brass: These metals are the backbone of many of our heavy-duty designs. While durable and lead/nickel-free, they are base metals. This means they can react to moisture and skin oils over time.

  • Upcycled Components: We love giving new life to forgotten materials. Because some of our pieces feature upcycled or vintage elements, their exact metal composition is unknown.

  • Stainless Steel: For those with sensitive skin, we recommend our 100% Stainless Steel options, as they are hypoallergenic and highly resistant to rust and tarnish.

⚠️ Allergy Warning: If you have high skin sensitivity or a known allergy to non-precious metals, please choose our Stainless Steel items. We cannot be held responsible for skin reactions; please purchase according to your personal sensitivity levels.

The Truth About Tarnishing

Except for solid gold or high-grade stainless steel, almost all metal jewelry will eventually undergo a process called tarnishing. This is a natural reaction to oxygen, humidity, and the pH levels of your skin.

  • Brass may darken or develop a "patina." (patina can refer to any fading, darkening, or other signs of age, which are felt to be natural or unavoidable)

  • Iron may show signs of wear if exposed to excessive moisture. This is considered normal wear and tear and is not a defect in the jewelry.

Pro-Tips for Longevity (The "Do's & Don'ts")

To keep your chains looking lethal and your charms shining, follow these simple rules:

The "Last On, First Off" Rule

Your jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night.

  • Avoid Chemicals: Apply your perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions before putting on your jewelry. The chemicals in these products can accelerate tarnishing.

Keep it Dry

  • No Swimming/Showering: Water is the enemy of base metals. Remove your pieces before hitting the gym, the shower, or the pool.

  • Sweat Happens: If you’ve had a long night out or a high-energy show, wipe your jewelry down with a soft cloth afterward to remove sweat and oils.

Storage is Key

  • Cool & Dry: Don’t leave your jewelry on the bathroom counter (the humidity is a killer).

  • Store it in a jewelry box or a small airtight bag.

  • Tangle-Free: Hang your chains or lay them flat to avoid kinks and breakage.

Quick Fixes & Cleaning

If your brass or iron pieces start to look a bit dull:

  • Buffing: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently buff the surface.

  • The Clear Coat Trick: If you are prone to "the green skin" effect from brass, a thin layer of clear nail polish on the inside of rings or back of pendants can create a protective barrier.
